Tofu Dengaku

Grilled Tofu with Miso Sauce

*Ingredients*
1 Tofu block (350g)

+White miso sauce
+Red miso sauce

+Japanese pepper powder or leaf
+poppy seed


*Recipe*
1. Wrap tofu in kitchen paper and microwave (500W) for 4-5 minutes to drain. Or press with one bowl of water on a tray for about an hour.
2. Cut the tofu into bite-size or a couple more bites size (about 7cm x 4cm x 2cm would be great).
3. Place them on a baking sheet and warm it in a oven, take it out and spread miso sauces on each tofu and put it back to oven and heat it till the miso's savory aroma fills the air.
4. Put Japanese pepper powder on white miso sauce and poppy seed on red one.

Tofu = hard cotton (momen) tofu

-Japanese pepper-
Rutaceous plant. Use as spice.
The leaves are used to flavour vegetables, such as bamboo shoots, and soups for spring to summer.
The flowers are used for soups, also its boiled in soy sauce for accompanying dish of rice.
The hulls are used for fish, especially eel, with strong teriyaki sauce.
